madFABER* is a fabrication studio based in Madrid, Spain. We collaborate with international artists and designers to execute works of art.
With over 20 years of experience working with artists and designers worldwide, we offer a comprehensive range of skills, tools, materials, and processes for the realisation and conservation of artworks. We share a passion for traditional craftsmanship, experimentation, and the use of modern technologies to bring ideas to life.
We combine traditional skills and processes with contemporary technology, such as 3D printing, laser and waterjet cutting, robot milling, and CNC engineering. Each project is unique, and we treat it as such, ensuring it receives the appropriate energy and direction. We love the process and strive to build relationships of trust and understanding with the artists we work with, as this fosters the creation of greater art.
*Homo faber: In Latin literature, this term refers to humanity’s ability to control its destiny and surroundings: Homo faber suae quisque fortunae ("Every man is the artifex of his destiny").
THE TEAM
Miqui Guillén
Project manager, trained as an interior architect, Miqui has spent 25 years immersed in creative processes and projects—ranging from filmmaking to the creation of artworks—managing production and fabrication processes for some of the world’s leading artists.
As a manager of international projects, he excels at bringing out the best in each team member. Versatile and constantly learning, he always finds time to cook for anyone who’s hungry
Sebas Beyro
Artist, researcher, and cook, Beyro has spent the last 30 years working in art production and restoration. With an obsessive mind, he is especially devoted to studying and implementing traditional techniques such as gold leaf, stucco marble or scagliola, bronze and plaster casting, and adapting these techniques for use in contemporary objects, materials, and processes.
For 15 years, he travelled both nationally and internationally, working for Patrimonio Nacional (Spanish National Heritage), restoring and revitalising some of the country’s most significant objects, palaces, and museums. Over the past 10 years, he has managed productions at Factum Arte, overseeing projects that range from monumental-scale sculptures to small, articulated objects crafted using a wide variety of materials and techniques.
Matt Marshall
Designer and photographer, Matt is always curious. He has extensive experience as a designer in art fabrication, with additional expertise as an industrial designer, 3D artist, and engineer. Passionate about problem-solving, he is particularly interested in applying technology to creative projects.
Matt enjoys exploring and contributing to many aspects of the design process, from concept development, R&D, 3D scanning, and 3D modelling to drafting. He also takes a hands-on approach in the workshop, operating CNC routers and 3D printing machines.
Jose Menendez
Workshop manager, Jose keeps the workshop running smooth with equal parts technical expertise and artistic intuition. Handling everything from logistics and suppliers to mold making, material experimentation, carpentry, metalwork and painting.
